The Naturalness of Change

Writer's picture: Jen KranjecJen Kranjec

I’ve spent a good bit of time in the world of fitness, self improvement, personal development etc, etc.. And, I have a longtime personal interest in behavior change. The psychology behind it, and really, how to go about it with ease rather than struggling with ourselves. Because what I’ve learned in my time in this world of “growth” is that there is a lot of struggle against ourselves. Making change into a chore, or resisting it entirely.

But I have this sense that behavior change is actually something that wants to happen naturally through us, it is a partaking in our inevitable evolution if we can just let go a bit. Let go of our grip on who we think we ought to be and how we ought to act.

It’s like a flower, that simply blooms when the time is right. It is not over-efforting. It’s gone from being a seedling, to extending roots, to sprouting its beautiful head above the earth for all to see. Whoever wants to see...

What if human beings naturally change along the life path, like a flower, driven by a life force beyond what we can see? And perhaps our only job is to become more perceptive to the subtle shifts in and around us, to notice the nudge from within, and then partner with that nudge to bring its prompting to life.
